Summer's Arrived!

As Summer arrives in Bampton Valley, we're delighted to launch our new Summer Menus - now with Sharing Plates and an extended number of options. A Children's Menu has also been introduced. We're a small pub so recommend booking ahead (all overnight guests are guaranteed a table).

If you're a visitor to this quieter part of the Lake District, check out our new Do page introducing the Essential Ws of the area: Walking, Wainwrights, Wildlife and Withnail

We hope to see you at our Community Pub soon!

Coming back to life!

After raising £400,000 to 'Save a Pub for the Valley', 'The Mardale Inn at St Patrick's Well' was purchased by over 500 members of Bampton Valley Community Pub in May 2022. The pub had been closed for 5 years and needed significant investment to secure its future.

As cash permitted, we reopened in a phased manner. We started with drinks only on July 1st 2022 and in late November 2022, with invaluable funding from The Prince's Countryside Fund, we reopened the kitchen.

Given amazing support from Inspiring Eden we refurbished all 6 of our bedrooms in 2023 (our Annex Bedrooms were updated in November 2023).  Visit our new 'Sleep' page to learn more....

Come visit our refreshed pub, meet our friendly teamenjoy the best in local Cumbrian ales, keg beers, wine, gins and food - and now perhaps stay for a couple of days!

Help us bring the soul of this important Valley community hub to life!

Visiting us

Our normal bar opening hours are:

  • Mon to Thurs - 4PM to 10PM

  • Fri & Sat - Noon to 11PM

  • Sun - Noon to 10PM

As a 'community hub', we host a number of events at different times (see below) and we also serve food 7 days a week.

We are a small pub so booking ahead for a meal is a good idea. Reservations are available at the following times (the kitchen closes 90 mins after the last booking time):

  • Mon to Sat Evening - 530PM to 8PM

  • Fri & Sat Lunch - Noon to 130PM

  • Sun - Noon to 230PM & 5PM to 7PM

Click on the icons below for sample menus (now including a Children's Menu). Items on these samples are updated regularly to reflect changing supplies so may not 100% match. Daily specials are also listed on the blackboard in the pub.

Alternative parking areas slightly farther away include (we are a beautiful Valley for an evening stroll):

  • 3 cars in the layby just along from Bampton School House heading towards Haweswater

  • 4 cars by Bomby Green and the bridge to Bampton Grange

  • 6 cars by Chapel Bridge (over Haweswater Beck)

Email us at info@themardaleinn.com or call us on 01931 719202 with any questions.

Planning to visit us lunchtime on a Monday to Thursday? The pub is not open at that time but you may buy a coffee, sandwich or pasty etc up until 1PM from our friends at 'Bampton Valley Stores' 75m away from the pub.

Bampton is a small village of narrow lanes so we ask you to walk or cycle to visit us - or please park considerately in respect of our neighbours if coming by car. A number of recommended parking places are on the map here - which are only 100 to 200 metres walk away.

Beer at The Mardale

Serving local real ales well, all brewed within 50 miles of the pub, is really important to us at The Mardale. That's why we are delighted to have been recognised and listed in CAMRA's Good Beer Guide for 2024.

To celebrate, and to thank our CAMRA (Campaign for Real Ale) friends who scored our beer so highly to get in, we're offering CAMRA members 40p discount per pint of real ale (on production of valid card).

Check out what's current and is coming up on our new 'Beer Board' (click on beer for more details about it).
